Mary Ann lives with her family in the rugged Utah territory, where she has a busy life and a special friend to share it with: her beloved wheat-filled doll, Betty.
One afternoon, a fierce storm forces Mary Ann and her family into their cabin before she can retrieve her doll from the garden. By the time the wild wind and rain subside, Betty is gone. Mary Ann is heartbroken. Winter is long without her friend, but spring eventually comes, bringing with it a wonderful surprise.
An afterword provides information about the real-life inspiration for Mary Ann.
When a mysterious hooded man robs the town bank, teller Ila Nichols takes the crime personally. She's not about to let that stiff-legged bandit get away with it, and she might even gain a reward for capturing the thief while she's at it. However, Ila's plans immediately go awry, and things grow stranger still, until Ila feels like she's stepped into one of the Jules Verne stories she adores.
"A Drama in Durango" is one of several short stories in this delightful anthology inspired by the works of Jules Verne.
